In my pre-workout food advices, I mention the most curious topic: Should a banana be eaten before or after sport? I studied “The art of fitness” at New York University so I am sharing my knowledge based on scientific evidences.
Your body needs energy during sport. Because energy source is needed for metabolic activities, increased respiration and for the muscles to work. At this point, banana is an excellent food to eat before sport as a healthy carbohydrate and protein source.
What are the benefits of eating banana before sport?
As you know, banana is one of the fruits with the highest sugar content. But we can´t be afraid of sugar if we do sports! As I have just said, we need energy to be more productive during sports and to make our bodies work healthier. Banana sugar is processed quickly to fill the glycogen deposits and used during sports. In summary, eating banana before sports is really useful!
Does eating banana reduce muscle pain?
Potassium in the banana is very useful for heart health and blood circulation. Especially if you are suffering from muscle aches after sports, eat a banana before sport; this will help reduce the pain.
Before sport , when exactly should you eat a banana ?
Generally, eating one medium sized banana half an hour before sport is suitable. By doing this you give the body the time necessary for food processing and conversion of the food to energy source. As you can eat the banana alone, you can also use it in oatmeal or chia seeded pudding.
What do I do before sport?
I do both cardio and weight exercises. My exercises usually last 50 minutes. During this time, I meet the natural energy that my body needs as follows:
- I eat a banana half an hour before the sports.
- I drink a cup of milk filtered coffee.
Good news: Drinking coffee before sports increases your fat burning rate. That means , while the muscles become more defined, it helps to burn the excess oil in the oily areas such as the belly, hips and arm. Try this tactic and you will absolutely see the benefits.
Can banana be eaten after sport ?
Due to the herbal proteins in the banana, of course it can be eaten aftersport. It helps a little to feed the muscles. The important point is its contribution to the filling of the glycogen deposits that emerge after the sport. Potassium content helps to maintain muscle health. However, if you are doing weight training like me; After the sport, instead of eating a banana you can choose nutrients with higher protein ratio from the list down
You can feed your muscles by eating a bowl of yogurt and a medium sized banana after the sport too.
